We stayed two nights in one of the yurts and really loved the experience. Traustholtsholmi is such a beautiful island, where you can simply slow down and relax.

Our stay on the island was my absolute favorite part of visiting Iceland. It was so unbelievably beautiful and peaceful. From the second we met Hakom, we knew we were in good hands

The Island

A hidden gem in the raw nature of South Iceland

“ There are three historic gardens on my island. Those are historic gardens. They have been there for hundreds of years and are made with old Icelandic methods. ”
You won’t find many handmade gardens like that anymore in Iceland after the introduction of the tractor when farmers started plowing big fields for their crops. But because Traustholtsholmi is an island, there has never been a tractor out there. You could say that they were never touched by the industrial revolution.
“Everywhere you look,

tender care for the

Wild salmon fishing

Participate in catching and enjoying wild salmon the farmers way.

Visitors to Traustholtshólmi are invited to participate in the catching of wild salmon from the river with nets the way local farmers catch their salmon. The day ends in a feast where visitors enjoy the bounty of the day with herbs and vegetables from the island garden.
